About Us

The history and organization of Goldenwest Credit Union goes back to the 1930s as the determined people of Ogden, Utah were rebounding from the Great Depression. Goldenwest was founded originally as the Ogden Railway and Depot Company Employees Federal Credit Union. In 1984, members voted to change the name of their not-for-profit financial cooperative to Goldenwest Credit Union. The re-branding to Goldenwest accompanied the vision to expand the Credit Union beyond the Ogden-area railroad roots.

In 2008, the board of directors and administration looked northward for future expansion opportunities in Idaho. A building lot was carefully selected and purchased in Rexburg. However, construction would not commence on the Rexburg branch until late summer 2021. The Rexburg, Idaho branch opened in February 2022. With a desire to expand quickly into Idaho, Goldenwest opened a branch in Eagle in December 2022, Boise in February 2023, and Post Falls in July 2023. Properties have been purchased in other areas of Idaho for future branches, included sites in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and Pocatello.

Goldenwest Credit Union proudly serves 180,000 members, holds $3 billion in assets, and operates 50 branch offices. Goldenwest is federally insured by the NCUA, and receives the highest 5-star rating from Bauer for financial strength.
