Program Overview
The Literacy Project of North Idaho empowers adults in our community to improve language and literacy goals through equitable learning opportunities. As a volunteer-driven organization, we provide free classes and one-on-one tutoring to support individuals and raise awareness of the literacy crisis.
Position Overview
The Executive Director (ED) leads the Literacy Project of North Idaho (LPNI), overseeing programs, strategic planning, and daily operations. Core responsibilities include Board governance, financial management, fundraising, program implementation, marketing, and community outreach. The ED is the primary spokesperson for LPNI and collaborates with the Board, staff, volunteers, and community partners to advance the mission.
Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership & Board Governance:
    • Provide leadership to inspire creative engagement and dynamic energy with community, staff and Board.
    • Support and strengthen the Board through recruiting, leadership, and collaboration.
    • Facilitate Board meetings and provide updates on organizational progress.
  2. Financial Management & Fundraising:
    • Develop financial sustainability strategies and annual budgets.
    • Oversee fundraising, including grants and donor cultivation.
  3. Operations & HR:
    • Oversee daily operations related to staff and volunteers.
    • Provide program logistics across the region.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance.
  4. Mission & Strategy:
    • Guide LPNI’s mission and strategic priorities.
    • Build relationships with community partners to enhance visibility.
  5. Marketing & Outreach:
    • Develop and launch short- and long-term campaigns to promote LPNI.
    • Represent LPNI as the primary spokesperson to constituents, media, and the general public.
  6. Program Management:
    • Ensure programs meet community needs and maintain quality.
    • Develop evaluation tools to measure impact and outcomes.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of proven nonprofit leadership experience, including fundraising and financial management.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit governance and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with the community, including stakeholders, donors, volunteers, and community leaders.
