Event Description:
The Art Spirit Gallery presents a staged reading of Steve Martin’s award-winning absurdist comedy, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, directed by Tracey Vaughan and performed by a talented cast of 7 professional regional actors. Those include Jayden Cornett, Chelsea Duval, Donivan Floyd, Thomas Gandy, Emma Hoyt, Duncan Clark Menzies, Elias Underhill. This is a fundraiser for The Art Spirit Gallery’s core mission and continued programming and presented in sponsorship by “Alpha 3 Wealth Management.” Written by comedian, actor, and playwright Steve Martin, Picasso at the Lapin Agile is a witty, fast-paced absurdist comedy that imagines a fictional meeting between a young Pablo Picasso and a young Albert Einstein in a Paris café in 1904. Both men are on the verge of groundbreaking discoveries—Picasso with Cubism and Einstein with the theory of relativity. Over the course of the evening, they debate art, science, genius, and the future of the 20th century. Mixing intellectual banter, sharp humor, and unexpected characters (including a time-traveling visitor from the future), Martin explores the intersection of creativity, innovation, and destiny—with plenty of laughs along the way. First produced in 1993, the play has won critical acclaim for its clever writing and its celebration of imagination across disciplines. For nearly 30 years, The Art Spirit Gallery has been a cornerstone of fine arts in the Inland Northwest. Now, as we transition into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are expanding our vision to bring even more arts programming to our community. Join us for an evening of laughter, wit, and imagination—and help sustain this beloved arts institution for generations to come. Your donations directly support local artists, performances, and community arts initiatives.
